Description


The A Way-Out Youth Team work with vulnerable young people aged 8-16, in both Primary & Secondary school settings, in areas of high deprivation. The young people we work with have a range of difficulties such as lack of positive role models, lack of positive relationships & many are isolated. The youth teams focus is delivering prevention-based work to help these children as the grow and develop ensuring they are equipped with important knowledge and skills to help them on their way

The Youth Team delivery targeted 6-week programmes to the young people, covering a range of topics such as healthy relationships, safety planning & online safety in a fun and informative way. We also work with children on a 1-1 basis if we feel this is more appropriate to their needs. The Youth volunteer will become part of our team of youth workers, helping to support these children, deliver important messages through our programme and be a positive role model. You will join a small team working towards defined project outcomes.

  • Previous experience of engaging with young people in a work/voluntary setting
  • Good communication skills
  • Good understanding of young people in the local area and the barriers they face
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to be a positive role model for young people, empowering & supporting them
  • Ability to engage and communicate with young people and confidently challenge negative behaviour
  • Commitment to undertake training such as safeguarding children & professional boundaries
  • Ability to follow risk assessments to ensure the safety of all young people & staff
  • Ability to deliver targeted work shops and work with children 1:1 when require
  • Clear DBS check
  • Enthusiasm and stamina
  • Good time keeping skills and the ability to work flexibly where required.
  • Passion for working with young people and making a difference to their physical and mental wellbeing
  • Recognition for the importance of confidentiality

  • Previous experience of running youth workshops/clubs with children
  • Full clear driving licence with access to own car
  • An appropriate qualification in a relevant field
  • First aid qualification or the commitment to achieve this
