Volunteer Trustee

Description

Yarm Wellness is a friendly, volunteer-led community charity dedicated to reducing
isolation and improving wellbeing. We create opportunities for people to connect, build
friendships and feel part of their local community.

We’re looking for enthusiastic and committed Trustees who share our passion for
supporting local people. If you care about your community, enjoy working with others
and have the time to actively contribute to a growing charity, we’d love to hear from you.

As a Trustee, you’ll help shape the future of Yarm Wellness, ensuring we continue to
make a positive and lasting impact for the people we support.

As a Trustee, you’ll work alongside fellow Board members to provide strategic
leadership, ensure good governance and help the charity achieve its mission.

We’re a small charity run almost entirely by volunteers, so our Trustees do more than
simply attend meetings. We value people who are willing to get involved, share their
skills and ideas, support projects and help drive our mission forward between meetings.

  • Help ensure the charity fulfils its charitable purpose and complies with charity
    law and our governing document
  • Contribute to the strategic direction and future development of Yarm Wellness.
  • Attend and actively participate in quarterly Trustee meetings, helping make informed and balanced decisions.
  • Support the charity between meetings by contributing your time, skills and ideas where you can to help achieve our goals.
  • Help oversee the charity’s finances and ensure resources are managed responsibly and sustainably.
  • Support good governance by monitoring risks and ensuring appropriate policies and procedures are in place.
  • Act at all times in the best interests of the charity and the people we support.
  • Champion Yarm Wellness within the local community and help raise awareness of our work.
  • Support, encourage and provide constructive challenge to fellow Trustees, volunteers and staff where appropriate.
  • Declare and manage any conflicts of interest and maintain appropriate
    confidentiality.

Experience in areas such as finance, fundraising, community engagement, marketing,
HR, legal, business or communications would be welcomed but is by no means
essential

You don’t need previous Trustee experience—we welcome people from a wide range of
backgrounds and will provide support to help you settle into the role.

We’re looking for people who have:

  • A genuine passion for supporting their local community and reducing isolation.
  • The time and commitment to play an active role in helping the charity grow and
    succeed.
  • Good judgement and the ability to think strategically.
  • Integrity, accountability and a collaborative approach.
  • A willingness to learn about charity governance and Trustee responsibilities.
  • A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Enthusiasm, positivity and a desire to make a real difference.

Time Commitment
Trustees attend quarterly Board meetings, with some preparation beforehand by reading
meeting papers.

As a small, volunteer-led charity, we also ask Trustees to contribute some time between
meetings to support projects, share their expertise, attend occasional events where
possible and help drive our mission forward. We understand everyone has different
availability, but being engaged and actively involved is an important part of being a
Trustee.

This is a voluntary role, although reasonable expenses may be reimbursed.

If you’re passionate about making Yarm and the surrounding communities happier,
healthier and more connected, we’d love to welcome you to the Yarm Wellness team
