Purpose of Role

To provide support, early intervention, encouragement,
and information to Service Users looking to improve their life skills and
knowledge and achieve greater independence


Employability Team at Thirteen group. 


Volunteers will support Service Users by;

· Developing and maintaining positive professional relationships with Service Users.

· Work with staff to gain an understanding of Service Users known to the service and potential Service Users.

· Act as a positive role model: to listen, support, and motivate Service Users.

· Provide options, assistance and support in times of need.

· Maintain good levels of Service User participation with the service.

· Work with Service Users on their personal goals and targets.

· Support Service Users with signposting.

· Network with external agencies to source additional support for specialist topic areas.

· Supervise Service Users and their children whilst they partake in activities.

· Assist Service Users with accessing external services – doctors, etc.

· Engage with all Service Users in a positive way.

· Participate in regular training, activities and programs.

Volunteers will also need;

· To be punctual and attend arranged voluntary sessions and let the team know if this is not possible at the earliest opportunity.

· To follow the organisations confidentiality and risk management procedures and to maintain safe working practices including traceability.

· To familiarise yourself with relevant policies and procedures including Lone Working and Health and Safety.

· To treat any equipment given to you from the organisation with care and respect.

· To behave in a professional manner that reflects Thirteen’s values.

· To attend regular supervisions and team meetings to input and receive feedback; to support continual professional development.

Knowledge & Skills

and Induction Requirements

Volunteers will have to undergo an Enhanced
DBS check and will need two references. Training sessions will also have to be
attended before starting the placement and include; an online E-learning
package plus two days training with the Volunteer and Peer Mentor Coordinator. For
the first six months of this role volunteers will need to attend regular
supervisions. Additional accredited training will also be provided. Support
will be given in all areas of training and accreditation completion. After 3
months of volunteering the trainee can lone work (if appropriate).

· A commitment to complete the trainee accreditation

· Able to work with members of staff as part of the team

· Able to work on own initiative when required

· A genuine desire to help the Service Users succeed.

General Requirements

and Duration

aid in consistency we would like volunteers
to volunteer at least 3 hours per week. This is due to the additional learning
demands around the role. A minimum time period of six months will be appreciated
to complete all training and ‘graduate’ from the trainee role. This role requires
mainly daytime support with the possibility of some evening and weekend hours.
