A Way Out is currently looking for new trustees, in particular those with Legal, HR, Health, HR, Women’s/Charity Sector, Fundraising, Academia and Digital experience to help us to continue in the next exciting stage in our development. As a new trustee, you would be joining a small team of existing Trustees to support our work in the Tees Valley area.

Your role would include providing input into our strategic direction, including our vision, aims and overarching strategy ensuring that the organisation functions within the legal and financial requirements of a registered charity.  As a Trustee you will also take responsibility for overseeing the management of the charity while concurrently delegating management to the Chief Executive Officer and the Senior Management Team.

We are looking for creative individuals with demonstrable leadership skills. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with a range of experience and skills from across legal, health and HR sectors who are also supportive of the Christian ethos of the organisation.

Board of Trustees

  • Fulfil responsibilities as required by the current Charities Act, Companies Act and all other legislation
  • Appoint the CEO ensuring that the person appointed to this role has the necessary skills and abilities and resources to fulfil the role, which would include leading the staff team;
  • Set and ensure maintenance of a framework of delegation and internal controls;
  • Agree operational and governance policy and procedures for A Way Out and monitor the implementation of these;
  • Develop, agree and monitor the delivery of a strategic plan to achieve the overall charitable objectives, including a financial plan, for the achievement of the overall charitable and business objectives;
  • Receive, scrutinise and analyse regular financial reports and progress information provided by the CEO, accountant, auditor or sub-committees of the Board;
  • Promote the interests of A Way Out within a wider network.

  • Trustees will ideally have access to wider networks and will act in an ambassadorial role, representing A Way Out into that network.
