Parents are clamoring for it, the kids love it, and we just need YOU to help us build it!
Squirrels is the newest, brightest section of the Scouts, designed specifically for brilliant 4 and 5-year-olds. It’s all about storytime, active play, outdoor exploring, and making new friends. Across Stockton, we have long waiting lists of parents eager to get their children involved—but we don’t have enough capacity in this age group to meet the demand.
We are looking for a foundational team of enthusiastic volunteers to help us launch brand new Squirrel cohorts in our local communities.
Think you don’t have the time? We’ve made this completely flexible. Starting a new group doesn’t mean doing it alone. We are looking for a team of people to share the load. You could team up with other parents, share the leadership role with a friend, or commit to a flexible rota (e.g., helping out once every three weeks). We can help to get you started and buddy you up with established Squirrel leaders so you are never left guessing.

Work as part of a new launch team to establish a fun, welcoming weekly routine for 4 and 5-year-olds.
Lead or assist with simple, high-energy activities like story-telling, crafts, action games, and short outdoor nature walks.
Create a safe, structured, and positive environment where young children can build confidence and earn their first-ever badges.
Welcome parents and carers, occasionally encouraging them to get involved on a parent rota.
No prior Scouting experience is required! Full, free training is provided.
An understanding of (or patience for!) early-years children is fantastic—parents, grandparents, teachers, or EYFS workers are perfect for this.
Good energy and the ability to keep activities moving at a quick, engaging pace for short attention spans.
Warm, nurturing, and enthusiastic.
A big imagination and a great sense of fun.
Community-minded and excited by the idea of starting something new that will benefit local families for years to come.
Must be 18 or older (though we can also accommodate volunteers aged 14-18 through our young leaders scheme).
An enhanced DBS check is required for this role (completed free of charge through us).
