As a “Literacy Champion” volunteer with the National Literacy Trust, we can support you to set up a free children’s bookshelf in locations that families visit!
We’ll provide the books (and the shelves, if needed!). All you need to do is let us know where they should be. You would also keep an occasional eye on the bookshelf, keep it tidy, and let us know when it needs refilled.
So if you know somewhere in Stockton where free children’s books would be appreciated, and would like us to help you set up a bookshelf there, please get in touch.
You would be supported by the National Literacy Trust in the North East Team.
This includes the Literacy Champion Project Officer, whose priority is to support volunteers. They’d come and help you set up the shelf, as well as return with books when needed to fill it up. They are there to chat to you about your volunteering at any time, including if you’d like to be involved further (such as supporting events) or if you have other ideas around how to encourage literacy in the North East.
This also includes the Hub Manager, who delivers events across the North East, and is always delighted to meet volunteers.
None needed in advance – we offer training and support around encouraging literacy.
Keen to help!
We’re happy to support you to be involved – please let us know if you need any adaptations to be part of the Literacy Trust’s work.
