The pandemic has been a challenging time for the residents of Stockton-on-Tees with many still feeling the effects. Volunteers are needed to help provide support to people and help them re-engage with the community as Covid restrictions continue to be lifted.
Referrals to this service will be made through the Pioneering Care Partnership (PCP) and is expected to include people who may be:
Previously diagnosed with COVID
Experiencing ongoing effects of long COVID
Experiencing difficulties/ barriers to getting
back to ‘usual’ pre-COVID activities as a result of the pandemic e.g.: nervous
about going back out into crowded spaces, lack of confidence in mixing again.

Outreach work, community
Volunteers will provide up to 6 support sessions to help members of the community to identify support options and/or activities/ groups which they may wish to
access to improve their current situation and aid reintegration.
For example, identifying
and helping to access a walking group if a person previously enjoyed walking
but is nervous about approaching a new group and mixing with new people. The volunteer
could attend the group with them for the first few weeks with a view to
empowering them to ultimately gain confidence to attend independently following
Support session will take place in person, over the phone or online to suit the volunteer and the person they are supporting.
Any face to face meetings will take place in the community.
Knowledge & Skills
No specific experience is required, just a friendly and helpful attitude and the desire to help others and support them to regain their independence.
This role will not involve any specialist support, if this sort of help is required referrals will be made in to specialist services.
Training and support will be provided to volunteers before they are matched to an individual, along with continued support from a Volunteer Co-ordinator at Catalyst.
A proactive approach and the ability to empathise with others is necessary for this role along with great communication skills and a non-judgemental approach.
Volunteers are required to commit to providing up to 6 support sessions with an individual, either once a week or more frequently to suit the volunteer and the person they are supporting.
