Description

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn how to evaluate the condition of existing access (footpath) infrastructure, assess the requirements for improvements and help implement those developments.

At the end of the project the Council will offer a certificate of attendance, issued by the supervisor who is a qualified NVQ assessor.

You will be able to volunteer for different elements of the scheme as you wish. You will be under no obligation to complete the full programme – come for whatever days that suit you best.

Greenspace Team

Working with Stockton Council’s Community Tree and Woodland Officer, volunteers will learn how to;

  • Undertake an audit of the existing footpath infrastructure through Thorpe Beck Farm woodland.
  • Design an improvement scheme, including the quantification of plant, materials and labour required.
  • Assessing the various options for surfacing materials and associated specifications.
  • Installation of footpath infrastructure, including boards, pegs/stobs, steps, surfacing materials etc.
  • Understanding of PPE, H&S requirements, risk assessments and method statements.
  • How to assess woodland and tree conditions and methods for selective vegetation clearance and management.
  • The understanding of different tools required, including the supervising of JCB’s on site.
