We’re looking for new adults to help our Cub Scouts aged 8-10.5 years old to learn skills for life.
What do Cubs do?

Cubs take part in all sorts of activities such as basic team games, cooking, arts and crafts through to more adventurous activities like learning to read a map, kayaking, climbing and archery.

Through all of their activities the Cubs are learning new practical skills, learning to work together as part of a team and developing their independence. You don’t have to be an expert in everything, there is support available particularly with the more adventurous elements.
When do they do it?
The group meets one evening per week during term time and there are occasional camps and trips at weekends.
Volunteers spend time away from the meetings on planning and administration however this is flexible and can largely be undertaken at a time to suit each individual or the whole team where applicable.
How do I fit in?
Our volunteers help to plan and run a fun and safe programme of activities for the young people helping them to work towards their badges and awards. One week you could be refereeing a game, the next helping the Cubs to make a model, the next watching on as they conquer the tallest climbing wall (or challenging them to a race up it if you’re that way inclined).
Volunteering is easier than you might think, there’s lots of support available and you can volunteer on a flexible basis to fit around other commitments. If you’re interested in getting involved, fill in the form at the bottom of this page and one of our team will get back to you.

All volunteers will:

  • Work as part of a team to plan and deliver fun, safe activities for young people aged 8-10.5
  • Help to support a positive environment for everyone within the group in line with The Scouts’ volunteering culture
  • Be involved in creating and reviewing risk assessments for the group’s activities
  • Take part in relevant and required training for the role

Dependent upon your interests and experience, you could also take on any number of the following:

  • Support the administration of the group using the Online Scout Manager platform to ensure that relevant details are recorded and up to date (i.e. parent/carer details, relevant medical details, attendance, progress towards badges etc)
  • Look after the section’s finances and report this to the group treasurer
  • Manage communication with parents to ensure that they are up to date with upcoming events/activities
  • Support young people approaching 10.5 years old to move up to Scouts

You don’t need any specific knowledge and skills to take on this role, just be willing to give it a go. Whatever your skill set there is a way for you to get involved and share that with the young people. You’ll be part of a team helping to inspire our young people to learn new things and you’ll be able to learn some new skills along the way too.

All volunteers are required to take part in some mandatory training which provides an initial outline of what we do and how in order to keep our volunteers and our young people safe – this includes safeguarding, safety and data protection training.
