A service to help support people who would like to gain confidence and get back into the shops following a period of isolation due to time in hospital or illness.
The role will include accompanying a service user to the shops, and to help them build confidence to progress going out to shop independently.
Some service users may need additional assistance due to individual needs e.g guidance for visually impaired service users or support for those with mobility issues.
Travel support will be assessed on an individual basis and volunteers willing to provide a lift to service users will be advised on insurance and safety issues.
To receive requests from the Community Hub manager.
To either shop on behalf of the service user or accompany them to the supermarket or shop as required.
In certain cases, this may involve entering the residence of the service users to assist with unpacking the shopping.
To answer any questions that residents have about the service.
To work closely with other volunteers.
To be friendly, informative, and helpful.
Be able to act in accordance with Catalyst health & safety procedures including specific Covid-19 related measures.
Knowledge & Skills
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide audience.
Open and keen attitude with a willingness to learn and develop new skills.
Ability to build strong working relationships with staff, customers, and other volunteers.
Use of a mobile telephone.
Full driving licence and access to a car or willingness to accompany service users to shops on foot if required.
An open and friendly attitude and desire to help others.
Good time management.
