Good Neighbours scheme launched in Stockton-on-Tees
People in need in Stockton-on-Tees will benefit from a new team of Good Neighbours in the Borough.
Community groups throughout Stockton-on-Tees have agreed to work together to shape up a new service of Good Neighbours, who can help their communities whenever people are in need. The number of people involved in rapidly growing, and they are a friendly voice at the end of the phone, a helpful hand to collect groceries or prescriptions, and providers of friendly advice about using digital technology to stay in touch with friends and relatives during the restrictions of the COVID pandemic. Catalyst are coordinating the campaign on behalf of hundreds of community groups, and are encouraging even more people to become a Good Neighbour. As the number of COVID cases in Stockton-on-Tees rises, it is ever more important to support vulnerable people.
Commenting on the Good Neighbour service, Councillor Bob Cooke, Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council said ‘’I would like to thank so many local people in Stockton-on-Tees this year for the great work they have done to address the consequences of the pandemic. The Good Neighbour service will only add to that, and I really look forward to meeting the new volunteers and learning about the great work they do. COVID has really shown the voluntary sector at its best, providing an invaluable contribution to the community”.

Volunteering is a fantastic experience, an opportunity to make new friends and develop new skills, and to give something fabulous back to the community. Good Neighbours can offer as many or as few hours per week as they wish, supporting established charities in Stockton-on-Tees.”
