On one remarkable day in June, 2017, 55 charities and organisations in Stockton-on-Tees came together to celebrate volunteering in the Stockton Borough. With organisations representing every area of interest, from healthy eating to cancer research, from support for older people to the environment, and many more good causes, the day was filled with a celebration of volunteering, and amazing examples of the great work going on in the Borough, and information on how to get involved.
Hosted in a huge marquee on Stockton High Street, the event was visited by more than 2000 people, curious to see what the charities of Stockton had to offer. And they weren’t disappointed! There were tombola stalls, the old fashioned sweet shop from Preston Park, bike riding demonstrations from Sustrans, handmade goods, painting and activities from the Big Life Children’s centres, book stalls from Beanstalk, birdboxes and other garden items from Tees Valley Wildlife Trust, healthy cakes from Little Sprouts, and stalls with information about services, charities, and volunteering in the borough. With added entertainment from Tees Music Alliance, and the passionate performance from a community band supported by CGL, the event was filled with a vibrant flurry of celebration and activity
More than 55 organisations took part on the day, and each received a phenomenal show of interest and enthusiasm from the people of Stockton.
