Assessing VolunteerIndependent Age
Do you like meeting new people? Are you observant with a talent for putting people at their ease? We have a role which will play to these strengths.
At a time when more and more older people are approaching us for support, your role plays a vital part in enabling isolated older people to receive support.
You will assess the suitability of the older person for receiving the services Independent Age provides, including telephone and face to face friendship services.
In your role, you’ll carry out an initial assessment over the phone and then visit the older person to assess how we can help them. On your visit, you’ll make a more detailed assessment and discuss any issues and either identify the best way we can support them or highlight where we are unable to help.
Older people accessing friendship services through Independent Age are socially isolated and are matched with a Friendship Volunteer who will have regular contact with them for a chat.
Your role enables that link-up between volunteer and older person to happen. The role involves a commitment of around a day a week (fairly flexible, but to be arranged with your Independent Age staff contact). We encourage you to stay in the role for a year. You get a full induction and role training plus regular support and supervision and we pay out-of-pocket expenses for your travel. You could need your own transport in areas where there is no public transport and you’ll need to have use of a mobile phone whilst out on visits.
